Slate Roof Repair Project
Despite the known fact that slate roofs do last for longer periods of time, it does not necessarily mean that they will go unharmed and undamaged all throughout its lifetime. Extreme weather conditions like freezing temperatures can also damage the tiles. Nails may also be a threat to your slate roof’s integrity especially when they are forced and pounded into the tiles.
Some of the things you may need for this project include replacement, a slate ripper, non clip shoes and a three inch hook.
Find the appropriate slate tile. Before even doing any repairs, make sure that you find the right replacement. It should be something that matches the size, color, appearance and dimensions of your existing ones.
Use the ripper. For you to cut and remove the nails, it would be vital that you have a ripper with you. The nails are usually found beneath the current tiles. A ripper is a tool that is similar to that of an anchor. All you have to do is slide it beneath then hook the nail body or tip onto it. As soon as the nail is hooked, it then can be slowly removed. Oftentimes, nails are fastened by two nails so make sure you every nail taken out.
Maneuver the slate hook, it has to be driven into a vacant spot. Place the hook on the middle with equal distance on every side. Position it three inches away from a lower edge.
Put on a new tile slide it smoothly on top of a hook. It will just slide swiftly into place.
Consider your safety first. It would be important that you climb down slowly on the slate roof. Any harsh and hassle movement can cause untoward accidents and additional problems.
Having the job done all by you is definately economical. Although slate roof repair is not the hardest job performed. Here are several tips for you to follow if you decide on a DIY. But always remember that oftentimes, it is better to leave the job to professional roofing contractors for you to save money, time and effort.
